My name is Chris. I am an optometrist and my French wife Rosenn has been a ‘stay at home’ mother. Over the years we have stayed in various self-catering houses and apartments and we have had the opportunity to assess what we enjoy and what makes a stay special. We always felt more comfortable in quiet, clean, well-kept residences, with fully equipped kitchens, plenty of hot water and easy access to nearby facilities.
In May 2019 we had the opportunity to create our own self-catering accommodation when a long-term tenant vacated our flat in the middle of Glastonbury. The property is ideally suited to visitors due to its proximation to the High Street, and within easy walking distance of any of the town’s restaurants and attractions. It is, however, tucked away and extremely peaceful.
With the apartment empty we took the opportunity to completely strip it out. We installed a modern kitchen, including dishwasher, a shower room, and furnished it all with new furniture. We have created an extremely comfortable place to stay right in the middle of town with its own parking space in the private car park.
What might a typical day look like when you stay at Churchside?
After a leisurely lie in, maybe with a complementary cup of tea or coffee you have a stinging hot shower followed by breakfast in the apartment, or you head over to One Hundred Monkeys or Coffee Zero on the High Street where they will cater for vegan, vegetarian or any other options you could ask for. I particularly enjoy their Cappuccino!
After breakfast, if you would like to know more about Glastonbury, you could follow the Millenium Trail which starts outside the Town Hall at the bottom of the town. This is a clockwise circular route and is marked by 20 numbered direction marks set in the pavement. It will take about an hour to complete the circuit and will help you learn about the town and its fascinating history. Follow this link for more details: Glastonbury Millenium Trail
Lunchtime is rapidly approaching. You can buy groceries at the Co-Op on the High Street or the Health Food Store to eat in the apartment. Or you can enjoy the food in any of the restaurants in town.
The afternoon is a great time to climb the Tor, the hill with the tower on top just outside Glastonbury.
The base of the Tor is about a twenty-minute walk from the apartment. Walk back up the High Street turn right at the top and follow the signs. Take it steady and you will be treated to magnificent views across Somerset. It can be breezy up there, so it is wise to take something warm unless the sun is blazing down. And don’t forget your water.
On the way to the Tor you will pass the Chalice Well and Gardens – a beautiful and peaceful retreat. Maybe you could visit there tomorrow, as well as the Somerset Rural Life Museum that is just around the corner? Or what about Glastonbury Abbey in the middle of Glastonbury?
Back at the apartment it’s time for a cup of tea and a freshen up before heading out to one of the restaurants. You can see if there are any live music events on in the town by clicking here: What’s on in Glastonbury?
Then back to the apartment for a well-deserved sleep.
Now, Churchside Glastonbury has everything you’ll need to wind down and unplug if only for a few days and according to these guests they thought the same:
“Firstly the location is perfect, right in the centre of Glastonbury. The apartment is amazing. Attention to detail is the best I have seen. Tastefully designed with the hint of Glastonbury. Also came with free parking. 10/10, highly recommended.” Christine
“Excellent location! Lovely host – very helpful indeed. A lovely clean, modern flat. Very comfy bed and all the conveniences you could ask for. Just off the High Street – within walking distance of all the lovely shops, the Abbey and Chalice Wells. Will stay again and recommend!” Venetia
“Alles! Beste Ausstattung, wir wären gerne eingezogen…” (Translation: Everything! Best equipment, we would like to move in…) Andreas
Rosenn and I are not bragging, of course, we are just proud.
Oh, and one more thing. Even though you’ve joined us to get away from the stresses of work, you’re safe in the knowledge that if you need to connect up the option is always there. (Although we think you deserve a break).
Can I ask you to do one last thing?
Get a date in your mind which would be perfect for a weekend away or a well-deserved holiday.
